Hi! My name is Petra Bogias. I’m an architect and I create spaces for today’s future. Let’s work together!

Philosophy

As an architect based in Hamilton and Toronto, I'm passionate about crafting buildings and objects that improve our everyday lives. From the intimate setting of our homes, to the daily grind at the office, good design has the power to energize the way we look at the world around us, and bring a sense of well-being to the spaces we inhabit. I strive for this in every project that I touch.

Qualifications

I received my M.Arch degree from the University of Waterloo School of Architecture (2014), where I researched the use of algae in a bio-reactive façade. I proposed an Algae Textile and went on to present this research at the Façade Tectonics 2016 World Congress. During this time, I also founded the digital design lab, F_RMlab, within the school with six of my colleagues, which still continues today as a student-led initiative. I also completed my Bachelor of Architectural Studies at the University of Waterloo in 2012, which included four co-op work terms.

I am registered with the OAA as a licensed architect, and have successfully completed my professional exams. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of project scales, ranging from small renovations to large institutional projects. My experience spans both architectural and interior design worlds. Contact me for more!

Initiatives

BoyashiMade

BoyashiMade is a small design studio co-founded by Petra and her partner Alan, focusing on small renovation projects and small-batch handmade furniture & objects.

FRMlab Digital Research & Media

F_RMlab is an incubator for computational design and fabrication, meant to promote digital literacy and computational discourse at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. F_RMlab supports students in realizing their projects from design, to prototype, to real life application and business growth, and is structured on a peer-to-peer self-assembled platform. With interests in digital design and physical computation, grads at F_RMlab are deeply invested in research focused on responsive environments, information processing and material systems, to discover new dynamic relationships between people and their surroundings.

Founded in 2012, Petra was one of F_RMlab’s collective group of founding members, leading its startup, marketing and development. It continues to this day as a growing network of young thinkers and makers who seek to make a change in the world.
